Hallie Calliham
Hallie has been teaching and training professionally for over fifteen years. While her background and personal education is primarily in dressage, she has an interesting background including last-chance mustang adoptions and years of competing in jumpers. Currently her focus is dressage training, teaching, coaching and competing. Hallie loves helping her clients’ horses learn to become more supple, attentive and balanced in their work!
Hallie has a Bachelor of Science in equine sciences from Colorado State University and holds her beginner-advanced instructor training through the university. Hallie also spent an additional two years focusing on clinical psychology in college which allows her to look at horse and human relationships with a unique perspective. She also holds many certifications through USDF including her Silver Medal, rider certified through second level, adult Dover medal awards, and numerous year-end championship placings through Pri St-Georges. In addition, Hallie has experience utilizing dressage as a form of physical therapy for horses rehabbing from injury or time off.
Hallie’s teaching and training style is positive and thoughtful, using exercises and explanations to help the rider to their goal rather than dictating what they should be feeling. In horse training she uses a similar approach believing kindness and encouragement allows the entire team to leave the arena happier than how they walked in. It is important to her to approach teaching and training this way as there isn’t always one way to solve a problem and students and horses come with a variety of backgrounds and learning styles.
Hallie is available for lessons and training for horses and riders of all skill levels at Nighthawk Equestrian Center and surrounding Boulder County.
