Karen Whitman
KW Dressage, owned and operated by Karen Whitman, has been based exclusively in Boulder County, CO for over 20 years. KW Dressage currently operates out of Nighthawk Equestrian Center where Karen is both barn manager and owner. Karen's love for the sport of dressage began at a young age when her mother took her to see the Lipizzan Stallions perform. Karen was enchanted by the artistry and team work. It set the course for her lifetime passion for dressage.
Karen’s experience with horses and riders of all types and experience levels creates a unique training program where equine partnerships flourish. Karen has an extraordinary ability to pair riders and horses and develops lasting relationships with her students. Many of Karen’s students have been with her for more than 10 years and through multiple equine partners. KW Dressage emphasizes collaborative learning, where students are encouraged to further their education through frequent clinics with top-tier trainers and officials. Karen and her students also enjoy expressing their creative sides through award-winning musical freestyles.
Horses in Karen’s program benefit from her extensive experience as a Veterinary Technician. She has worked through the years to build a comprehensive team of equine care professionals. She keeps horses happy and healthy, regardless of their work and training level. Karen’s program doesn’t end in the arena; she works tirelessly to not only care for horses, but also teach her students valuable horse management and horsemanship skills.
Karen has worked extensively with her long-time mentor Susan Martin and has also participated in clinics with Lilo Fore, Conrad Schumacher, David Blake, and Kathy Connelly.
Karen's awards and accomplishments include:
USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist
Numerous regional and national year-end awards, most recently including several Grand Prix Hight Point and Horse of the Year awards
Multiple students have earned NAJYRC gold and silver medals
Experienced in training horses from Introductory levels through Grand Prix
